Wait Training.

Laura emailed me this short devotion from her pastor's blog last week. It was so good.  I have read and re-read this so many times sent she sent it to me.

I am one of those strange people who actually LIKE to work out. There's a class I like to take at the gym called "Body Pump" with lots of weight training. It is a great class!

The first time I ever did Body Pump I was SO SORE! In fact, I had to take Advil just to go to sleep that night! I ached all over! It was miserable. But I kept going to the class. And I finally got to where I could actually do the class and not be sore the next day!

I had built up my muscles enough to where they could (finally) do the class. But it took a lot of hard work! Well, this devotion talks about "WAIT training". Hmmmmm. I had never really thought about waiting in this way before.

Check this out...

Psalm 40, for those of you who are waiting patiently for something, or who are living in despair for whatever reason, this psalm and verses 1-3 are especially for you (and me!): “I waited patiently for the Lord to help me and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted my out of the pit of despair out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God.”

Patient waiting. It’s so hard to do. But God does something in waiting like no other time. My wife affectionately calls it “wait training.” Just like with our physical bodies, we need “weight” resistance to build our muscles, God needs times of “wait training” that cause resistance to our faith. But its purpose is to build our spiritual muscles. During these times our faith is made stronger like no other time.

I know it’s hard to wait patiently. But continue to do so with great faith. God hears your cries. He weeps with you in this broken world. David in this psalm: “I have told all your people about your justice” (vs. 7). God IS a God of justice. He sees wrongs. Wait patiently on the Lord. Pray your feet now slipping on mud and mire will soon be placed on HIS ROCK.

Finally, verse 17: “But the Lord is thinking of me right now.” He is! He has not forgotten us. Then David concludes: “Do not delay, O my God.”

May He not delay for you too.

Wow. Could it be that God is using this long WAIT time for Caroline Faith to strengthen our spiritual muscles? to build our FAITH?

He has a plan and a purpose in the wait. And I am pretty excited about it what He is going to do.

And just think, we're going to be in really good shape when this is all over! :)

Praise Jesus for these times of waiting. It can be sooooo hard, but is part of His plan. He is refining all of us, and preparing us for what He has ahead. I NEVER thought we'd be waiting 7+ months for a toddler referral, but we are. Whatever the reason, we are. To God be the glory!

I needed this so much! Thank you for posting it, it is exactly what God is doing in my life right now, although I think my wait is coming to an end. I knew there were spiritual benefits, but I couldn't figure out what they were. Now, I know. What a blessing you are!

Oh girl...perfect words for so many of us on this journey! I feel like we have so much more "wait training" ahead of us...thank you for the reminder it's just another opportunity for Him to grow us!! If I haven't told ya lately...I just love your heart and so thankful we met up in this crazy blog world!! I hope we get the chance to meet in "real life" someday! Maybe in Ethiopia? :)

Such.GREAT.words! THANK YOU for posting this! It strengthens me to just read it! :) Wish that was all I had to do.....READ about waiting! Ha! God has been SO USING our time in the "waiting room." Definite "WAIT training" for sure! In a good way! Though, I would be MORE than happy to move beyond this "work out" any day now! :) Blessings to you for sharing such a positive outlook!

Wow Alison, how I needed that. The Lord has had Chris in me in a season of wait for a time now, but it's so encouraging to hear from time to time that what we're waiting on will be worth it. We pray daily for patience and I can't wait to see how of "wait training" can be used for Him when it's over! Thanks for sharing. Thinking about And praying for y'all and Catiline Faith often.
